General AMP Liquid Mulch Application Information

The following information is given as a guide. Actual dilution and application rates will depend on the equipment used and on the desired results.

AMP Liquid Mulch is available in several grades and it is a proven, cost effective and easy to implement solution. Each grade is specifically designed for the needs of the industry in which it is used. In general, it is applied as a liquid over the soil or railway ballast and quickly dries to form a physical barrier that does not affect the crops or plants. New seeds from weeds cannot take root and new weed growth is eliminated. It is more cost effective than manual weeding.

How do I apply the Liquid Mulch?

AMP Liquid Mulch can be applied using any commercial spraying equipment. However, some equipment works better than others. Spraying equipment that uses air pressure as well as equipment with centrifugal or piston pumps can be used. Spray nozzles may have to be changed so that the product is applied evenly to the soil.

The AMP Liquid Mulch is supplied and must be diluted with water before use.

It is important to apply the Liquid Mulch as evenly as possible. Gaps are potential places for weed seedstolodge, germinate andgrow.

What equipment should I use?

As mentioned above, AMP Liquid Mulch can be applied using any commercial spraying equipment. Centrifugal type pumps are recommended because they can easily pump the slurry type consistancy of the AMP Liquid Mulch. Similarly, all restrictions such as filters and small valve openings must be removed.
Spray nozzles may have to be changed so that the product is applied evenly to the soil. Often, no nozzle is used.

Recommended dilution rates range from 1 part AMP Liquid Mulch : 1 part water to 1 part AMP Liquid Mulch : 5 parts water.

It is best to contact our technical experts when selecting equipment.

Will it be difficult to clean the equipment?

Equipment can be easily cleaned by rinsing with water. It does not “gum-up”. If the nozzles or orifices are too small, they may clog. If this happens, they can be removed and cleaned with water. Simply dilute the AMP Liquid Mulch more or use larger nozzles.

It is also recommended to clean the equipment immediately after use by rinsing with water. If the product dries inside the equipment it can be removed with warm water.

Will it affect my plants?

AMP Liquid Mulch is not a herbicide and it is not a fertilizer. It is applied as aliquid over the soil and dries to form a physical barrier. Seeds that fall onto this barrier usually do not sprout because they dry out.
At the same time, the barrier allows water to pass through and it allows the plants to breathe. The water will pass slower than it does without the Liquid Mulch barrier.

Can I mix the Liquid Mulch with other products?

Yes, AMP Liquid Mulch can be mixed with many other products. Many chemicals, have been tested to ensure that the AMP Liquid Mulch will still perform. However, there are some materials that are incompatible with AMP Liquid Mulch and that may result in the AMP Liquid Mulch not forming the desired protective barrier. It is recommended that you contact AMP before conducting any compatibility tests.
